Gallatin R-5 gears up for American Education Week
Local members of the Missouri State Teachers Association are joining thousands of teachers, students and educational organizations throughout the nation to observe the 87th annual American Education Week, November 16-22.
Debbie Sweatman, president of the local MSTA affiliate, the Gallatin Community Teachers Association, said several activities have been planned with that theme in mind.
"Students will celebrate American Education Week with a variety of activities," Mrs. Sweatman said. "Including coloring bookmarks, poster contests, and community events like the mayor’s proclamation."
The U.S. Department of Education is one of the national co-sponsors of American Education Week, and a department task force has been appointed to coordinate the week’s observance.
Established in 1856, MSTA is the state’s largest and oldest Education Association, with more than 44,000 members.
