Ten members of the Gallatin FFA Chapter attended the 81st National Convention in Indianapolis, Ind., on Oct. 22-25.

Members included Megan Chadwick, Breanne Brammer, Danielle Ness, Chelsey Smith, John Lollar, Aubrey Walker, Ryan Chadwick, Len Deutschman, Kegan Merrit and Chris Huffman.
The members attended leadership conferences throughout the trip. There were 23,000 members that attended the Taylor Swift concert. Taylor Swift is a former FFA member and everyone enjoyed her sold out concert.
Trip participants toured the Carly Elk farm where they learned how to run a successful elk business. Carly Elk farm raises elk and deer and makes elk jerky, which the members sampled.
FFA members went to the FFA Mall, career show, and business sessions. The FFA Mall included many FFA products. There were several universities and companies showcased. Students learned about agriculture jobs nation-wide.
At the Louisville Slugger factory and museum, students saw first hand how professional bats are made. Using a computer program, the factory makes most of the baseball bats for major league players.
Students also toured Churchill Downs racetrack and museum, which is where the Kentucky Derby is held. This is a historic site where the derby=s famous twin spires are listed on the National Historic Registry.
Wile out of state, members enjoyed sampling some new cuisine at Joe=s Crab Shack. The students ate crab, calamari (squid), mussels and other tasty treats that you won=t find in Missouri.
Wrapping up the National Convention was the American Degree Ceremony. Laura Youtsey and Riley Rains received their American Degrees.
The Gallatin FFA Chapter received a silver rating. Breanne Brammer and Danielle Ness accepted the award on behalf of the Chapter and were featured on national television.
