North Daviess R-3 recognizes Jameson WW II casualties

Inside the south entrance to the gym at North Daviess is a simple bronze plaque that reads:

"In Memory

Of Those Who Paid

The Supreme Sacrifice

In World War II."

Listed below are the names of Jameson graduates killed in the war. The North Daviess students felt that as Veterans Day on November 11 approaches, now would be an appropriate time to tell more about some of the men recognized on the plaque.

Charles E. Foster:

Clyde A. Athay: Mr. Athay was a private in the 140th Infantry, 35th Division. He was killed in action on Sept. 3, 1941. His grave is located in the Hickory Creek Cemetery at Jameson.

There are several servicemen that the school does not have any record of and would appreciate any information from the public. Those servicemen are: Jack D. Smith; Donald C. Wilmot; and Hartford B. Worley, Jr. Please contact the staff of the schools at Roundtable Report at 660-828-4123.

If anyone has pictures or memorials of anything that they would like to share or put on display at the assembly, feel free to bring them in. There will be a table ste up in the gym for them.

The veterans are also invited to come in and eat lunch before the assembly. Refreshments will also be served after the assembly.

Veterans’ Day celebration at Tri-County

The students, faculty and staff of the Tri-County School District would like to invite all area veterans to a Veterans Day celebration on Monday, Nov. 10, in the elementary building. The morning begins in the cafeteria with a biscuit and gravy breakfast at 8:15 a.m. for all veterans.

From the breakfast veterans will then move to the new gymnasium for an opportunity to hear students present patriotic songs, a noted local speaker and a chance to be recognized individually for their contribution to this country. This ceremony begins at 9 a.m.

We look forward to everyone attending this event. Please come and be honored for your dedication and defense of our country. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the school at 660-684-6116.
