Daviess County Courthouse News (10-22-08) – Attempted abduction reported in Jamesport

 Sheriff’s Office

An attempted abduction was reported to the sheriff’s office on Oct. 19. The incident occurred at the corner of Auberry Grove and Elm Street in Jamesport. An 11-year-old juvenile reported that a man in a dark purple Hummer asked her if she needed a ride home. When she refused, the man grabbed her shirt and tried to drag her to the vehicle. The juvenile escaped from the man and ran home. The subject is described as white, medium build, no facial hair, wearing a Red Sox baseball cap and a red Chiefs sweatshirt. The case was investigated by Deputy Phillip Berry.

Sheriff Heldenbrand advised that this little girl did the right thing by screaming and running away. He said kids need to be aware of their surroundings. Parents need to instruct their kids how to act if someone tries to force them to get into a vehicle. "Don’t go willingly," he said. "Do anything you can to draw attention to yourself."
