CD #55754 maturity date is Oct. 18. The aldermen would like to renew the CD for 60 more days.

Eddy Meador reported that the city has a water line that is exposed and needs repaired.

Richard Mooney, Department of Economic Development, presented his monthly report to the board, outlining progress of the EEZ project.

Mr. Mooney stated that he had received several positive comments about the project and about how much of a need there is for more job opportunities and economic growth in Daviess County.

He said three members were still needed for the board to represent the "private sector." He has a few people that have agreed to consider taking a position on the board, but have not given definite answers as yet.

He hopes to have a complete list of board members ready by the end of this month. Once the board is approved by the county commission, work will begin on the zone application as quickly as possible.

Mr. Mooney said that in spite of the recent economic devastation on Wall Street, interest in business development and/or expansion has not come to a complete standstill. While some "cash strapped" companies are just trying to ride out the economic storm, other companies can use times like this to their advantage.

Mr. Mooney stated that these tend to be companies that have enough liquid capital to be virtually self-funded. These are the companies that have become strong financially through maximizing profits while minimizing costs. These are the companies looking for ways to save money on each and every step of the process, from manufacture, to transportation, to marketing and customer support, for their products. These are the same companies that are starting to notice the potential that Missouri has to offer.

Mr. Mooney said that is why the county really needs to get the EEZ up and going as soon as possible. These virtually self-funded companies are exactly the kind of companies the county wants to attract. The incentives that an EEZ offers are exactly the kind of thing these companies will be looking for.

The above are the unapproved minutes for the special meeting of the City of Pattonsburg held Oct. 16. Present were Mayor Gene Walker; Aldermen Lonnie Luke, Mark Smith and Leonard Barr; Water Superintendent Eddy Meador. (The regular meeting on Oct. 15 did not have enough members for a quorum, so the special meeting was set for Oct. 16.)
