He was born Nov. 27, 1939, in Gallatin, Mo., to Offa and Donald ("Doc") Woody. Ron married his high school sweetheart and best friend, Shirley Yates on March 28, 1959 and they had a wonderful life together for 49 ½ years. At age 19, he started work for Automatic Electric, where he worked as an installer of telephone offices for many years, a profession that led him and Shirley to travel throughout the United States, see many places and meet many people, experiences that he treasured. He completed college during that time, earning a degree in electrical engineering. In the late 1970s, he opened his own business, and thereafter was a small business owner and entrepreneur in Jefferson City, Mo. In 2007, he and Shirley moved to the Kansas City area to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Ron never met a stranger, and was a consummate storyteller. He loved people, and lived his Christian faith by helping others and touching lives wherever he went. His greatest joy was his family, and he was and is a loving and very beloved husband, father, and, especially, granddad. His priorities in life were his family, his faith, and the great outdoors. He was an avid fisherman, sportsman, and great appreciator of nature; he passed on those gifts to his grandchildren by providing them with rich experiences in the outdoors that they will never forget.

Ron was preceded in death by his mother, Offa, his father, Donald, and his brother, Roy Woody. He is survived by his wife, Shirley; brother, Jerry Woody; sister, Jean Kirkendoll; many nieces and nephews; daughter, Teresa Woody and son-in-law, Rik Siro; daughter, Shauna Woody-Coussens and son-in-law, Greg Coussens, and precious grandchildren, Hayden Coussens, Alex Siro, Lia Siro, Shannon Coussens, and Reece Coussens, and will continue to be a loving presence in their lives.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, Oct. 24 at 11 a.m., at First Christian Church in Gallatin, Mo., and on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 11 a.m., at First Baptist Church, 301 E. Capital, Jefferson City, Mo. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Harvesters Community Food Network in Kansas City, or the American Cancer Society. Arrangements: McGilley & George Funeral Home, 611 Chestnut, Belton, Mo. (816-322-2995)
