The basketball teams at North Central College in Trenton have begun official practices in preparation for their first games less than three weeks away.

Lady Pirates head coach Jenni Croy reports that the women have five returners from last year’s squad, including Third-Team All-American Cassie Hunt from Richmond. Other area returnees are Trisha Ireland of Trenton and captain Jodi Yocum of Mound City.
Incoming freshmen to the team include Monica Wilson of Gilman City, Adrienne Ford of Hamilton, Melissa McGinley of Albany and Christy Hart of Princeton.
A "Meet the Pirates" night is being organized by the men’s and women’s basketball teams to open the 2008-09 season, according to athletic director Steve Richman. It is set for Saturday, Nov. 1, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Ketchum Community Center on the NCMC campus. Women’s team players will be introduced and they will scrimmage two 15-minute halves. At approximately 7:15, there will be a three-point shootout challenge between the men’s and women’s players, followed at 7:30 by a dunk exhibition/contest. At 7:45, members of the men’s team will be introduced prior to their scrimmage.
NCMC teams will open their seasons Tuesday, Nov. 4, at State Fair Community College in Sedalia. First home games are Saturday, Nov. 8 against Hesston College of Hesston, Kan.
