Dear Editor:
I personally am appalled at the Washington bail out of Wall Street perpetrated by the government.
I was the pastor of the United Methodist Church in Gallatin from 1984 to 1988 at the heart of the farm crisis. No one in Washington did anything to help the family farms that went under. And while I was pastor of the Gallatin church, if I remember rightly, 27 businesses – everything from farm implement to radio shack – closed their doors in Gallatin during my pastorate. There used to be five restaurants in Gallatin. The farm crisis hurt folks on main street as well as on farms, and as I recall, their only hope was Willie Nelson and a few folks like him.
It seems to me that plunging our country into greater debt to help the folks on Wall Street and not do anything for ordinary people is ludicrous and unconscionable. I normally keep my opinions to myself, but I just can’t on this.
I support Barak Obama for president because, in my opinion, only he offers any real change from the policies that have nearly bankrupted our country. If things continue as they are now, our country will be bankrupt.
Sincerely, Ray Willis, Gallatin
