The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints completed the renovation of a meetinghouse that will serve nearly 500 of its members who reside in Gallatin, and nearby communities.
Bishop Hanson said, "We welcome the opportunity for the Gallatin community to tour the renovated building. This would include the chapel itself where our Sunday worship services are held as well as the multiple classrooms where children and youth of all ages along with the adults receive gospel instruction. The building, which also houses a basketball court, will be used during the week for youth activities as well as religion classes that focus on the life and teachings of Christ."
"In addition, Hanson stated, this renovation gives us room to have a staffed Family History Center that will be open to the public free to assist anyone in the community interested in researching their own ancestors and family history. We invite and welcome all members of the community to join us for the open house."
The open house for the public, is slated for Saturday, Oct. 25, with tours of the meetinghouse from 2 to 5 p.m. People of all ages, faiths and backgrounds are welcome.
The 18,000-square-foot meetinghouse sits prominently along Highway 6, and constructed of rustic red brick complementing the surrounding landscape. It consists of a chapel that seats approximately 300 people, a large multi-purpose cultural hall for sports and cultural arts activities, 14 classrooms, food serving area, and three offices. The interior of the meetinghouse features pictures from the life of Jesus Christ. Construction was performed by Barsto of Kansas City.
New buildings are being completed virtually every day of the year in order to house growing membership. The over 13-million-member church constructed approximately 3,500 meetinghouses in the 160 countries and territories where it has a presence between 1995 and 2003. These meetinghouses differ from Latter-day Saint temples where marriages and other sacred ordinances are performed, uniting families for eternity.
