Randy Hanson has been named the leader or bishop for the Gallatin congregation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Bishop Hanson will be joined by two counselors: Jeff Durfee and Matthew Turley. Although there is no stipulated period of service, it is common for a bishop to serve his congregation for about five years. A bishopric earns their own living and receives no pay of any kind for their service in the church. Outgoing Bishop Austin Bonnett and his wife, Darlene, will continue to be active in community and interfaith activities.
Hanson, who served a two-year mission in the Spanish-speaking Bolivia Santa Cruz Mission, joined the church when he was 18 years old. Self-employed, Hanson owns Hanson International, a commercial equestrian boarding/agricultural business. Randy and his wife Debbe have been married for 27 years and have six children. Bishop Hanson said, "Knowing that Jesus Christ is my Savior brings me renewed hope and happiness with each new day. Families are the foundation from which life’s greatest blessings flow. The City of Gallatin is the most kind and caring community that I have ever had the privilege of being a part of. Debbe and I just fell in love with the area."
Jeff Durfee has been named the first counselor in the Gallatin ward bishopric. Durfee is a Microsoft engineer/IT consultant for MSI Systems Integrators. Jeff and his wife JoAnn have been married for 24 years and have seven children. They bought a farm to raise their family and horses. A life-long member, Durfee said, "Jesus Christ is the center of my life. I am so grateful for his life and sacrifice for me."
Matthew Turley has been named the second counselor in the Gallatin ward bishopric. Turley, a life-long member, served a two-year mission in the California Sacramento Mission. He is employed by the Department of Rehabilitative Services – Missouri Vocational Enterprises as a Factory Manager at the Crossroads Correctional Center. Matt and his wife Kim have been married for 22 years and have six children.
