It’s that time of year again for the Chautauqua and the flea market on the Gallatin square. As in the past I am sure there will be a lot of walking as well as vehicle traffic in the downtown area. Walkers should use extra caution when in the area and when crossing streets and drivers should also use caution while in these areas.

Anyone bringing an ATV into the downtown area should remember that you must have a valid driver’s license and that even with a city permit they are not allowed on Highway 13 except in the parade.

Due to the congestion in the downtown area during Chautauqua, the Gallatin Police Department has teamed up with The Hillbilly Shop and will be taking advantage of Section 304.001 of the Revised Missouri Statutes allowing governments the use of golf carts. The golf carts will allow officers to patrol downtown and get into areas that may be unaccessible to normal police vehicles. Officers patrolling in these carts will be able to assist anyone needing help.

These officers will also be handing out Project Child Safe gunlocks and Kansas City Royals baseball cards during Chautauqua.

The officers of the Gallatin Police Department hope that everyone has a fun and safe Chautauqua.
