The Missouri Department of Natural Resources will hold a public meeting Sept. 3 to discuss proposed water quality-related improvements to the Gallatin Livestock Auction. The department will present information and be available to answer questions from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in the commons area of Gallatin R-V High School, 602 South Olive, Gallatin.
Because of local public interest at this site, the department is hosting the public meeting to inform the public about specifics of the proposed changes and give local citizens an opportunity to express their concerns and ask questions. The department is currently reviewing draft engineering plans and specifications and waste management plans designed to the correct water quality-related problems at the auction facility. Over the last year, the department has been working with the auction owners to address water quality violations originating from the runoff of animal manure from its property. The facility has developed a nutrient management plan and has proposed site improvements designed to prevent discharges of manure to nearby streams. People requiring special services or accommodations to attend the meeting can make arrangements by calling 800-361-4827 or 573-751-1300. Hearing-impaired individuals may contact the program through Relay Missouri at 800-735-2966.
