There have been several recent reports of copper wiring stolen at grain bin sites in DeKalb County. Due to this fact, Sheriff Kevin Heldenbrand is advising Daviess County farmers to check their grain bin wiring now, in order to avoid delays at harvest. There are presently no reports of copper wiring thefts in Daviess County.

Two arrested during party at Gallatin residence

Sheriff’s Dept.

Jeremy Prescott, 20, and Alexander A. King, 24, both of Gallatin, are each charged with possession of controlled substance with intent to deliver, class B felony, and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia, class A misdemeanor.

The arrests were made Aug. 9 at their residence, 807 S. Clay St. in Gallatin, where they were holding a party. Fourteen people were identified at the residence, and several were juveniles. Deputies Todd Watson and Jason Sackrey had first observed a white male publicly urinating in front of the residence. Upon seeing the deputies, the subject ran to the house. The deputies then approached the house, Deputy Watson to the front door and Deputy Sackrey to the back door. They took Prescott, King, and Kevin Salmons of Bethany into custody and discovered a black lock box which Prescott had dropped out a window. The box contained what appeared to be marijuana, as well as drug paraphernalia.

No charges were filed against Salmons. Bond for Prescott and King was set at $50,000 each. They are being held at the regional jail, pending a preliminary hearing set for Aug. 18.

Stanley A. Shepard, 48, Osceola, was taken into protective custody for being intoxicated on Aug. 7. He was processed and released after 12-hour detoxification.

Jan Rasmussen, 47, Ames, Iowa, was arrested Aug. 9 for misdemeanor speeding, no valid license and DWI. She posted $1,250 bond.

Danny R. Adams, 19, Kansas City, Kan., was arrested Aug. 10 for misdemeanor no valid license. He is being held on $500 bond.

Maria A. Cataldo, 24, Phoenix, Ariz., was arrested Aug. 9 for failure to appear on a misdemeanor charge of no valid license. She posted $300 bond.

Circuit Court

Mira A. Huffman admitted probation violations. Her probation was revoked, and the court ordered previously imposed sentence of seven years to be executed. The charge is possession of controlled substance, class C felony. The case was heard by Judge Kanoy on Aug. 8.

State vs. Virgil W. Stevens, Seneca, DWI, persistence offender, class D felony, failure to drive on right half of roadway, infraction;

State vs. Brian K. Marshall, Pattonsburg, domestic assault third degree, class A misdemeanor, unlawful use of weapon, class D felony, armed criminal action, felony.

Associate Circuit Court

Defendants found guilty in the Associate Division of the Circuit Court of Daviess County are listed below with the offense and fine assessed. Additionally, court costs collected for the State of Missouri amount to $66.50 for moving traffic violations and $114.50 in most criminal cases.

County Commission

James Lewis, bridge supervisor, reported that they are going to be replacing a bridge deck on Granite Avenue this week in Jackson Township and are continuing flood damage repairs.

Gary Holcomb was in regarding culverts in Marion Township because people cannot access their property.

Dana Carder, Emergency Dispatch, met with the commission regarding adding an antenna to the existing tower for emergency transmissions.

Zac Johnson, Gallatin City Administrator, met with the commission regarding a street that is half the township’s and half the city’s. It had been damaged from water. The county has agreed to furnish a 36" tube, and the city will install the tube. The city is planning on removing the old water tower and the 911 antenna will have to be removed.

Lance Rains, Green Hills Regional Planning Commission, brought the 2008 State Historical Preservation Grant paperwork for rewiring the courthouse. This will be a $100,000 grant for a $240,652 project.

Ed Whaley met with the commission regarding a culvert problem in Jefferson Township.

Bob Burnett, Snyder & Associates, brought the pay requests for BRO (29) for signatures.

The commission inspected roads and gravel in Jackson and Harrison Townships in the afternoon.

Marvin Landes met with the commission regarding a problem in Grand River Township.

The executed copies of the cooperative agreement for child support services and the supplemental agreement were received from the Missouri Department of Social Services.

Georgia Maxwell, recorder, filed her notice of reimbursement request for 2008.

Upon recommendation from Serve Link Home Care, Nancy Tate was reappointed to a three-year term on that board by unanimous vote.
