Carl Baker, 72, passed away August 7th at St. Luke’s Hospital Kansas City, Mo. Services were held Monday, August 11that McWilliams Funeral Home in Gallatin with burial at Lebanon Church Cemetery near Stewartsville. Family visitation was held Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m. Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Lung Association or the Carl Baker Scholarship Fund in care of the Funeral Home.
Carl Baker was born October 9, 1935 to Marvin & Grace (Simpson) Baker in Cameron, Mo. He graduated from Cameron High School in 1953. On September 2, 1955, Carl was united in marriage to Pat Collins in Maryville, Mo. He attended North West Missouri State University of Maryville where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in education. He continued his education at the University of Missouri in Columbia with a Master’s Degree in Education. He later attended Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg to obtain a Specialist Degree in School Administration. Carl began teaching American History in High School at Rosendale and Craig school systems for seven years. He served as Principal in the Craig High School, Superintendent at Winston R-6 High School District. He served as Superintendent of Schools in Gower from 1965 to 1977. He accepted the position of Superintendent of the Gallatin R-V School District in 1977, retiring in 1990 after 13 years of dedication and devotion to the students and the schools he served. He lived his life with great spirit and energy and was dedicated in helping children build the confidence needed to go out into the world. He was President of the Northwest Missouri School Administrator’s Association; President of the Northwest Missouri Educational Development Inc., and Vice President of the Northwest Missouri Education Cooperative. Carl Baker was formally honored for his many years of unparalleled leadership in the field of education. The members of the Missouri Senate 85th General Assembly gave an official proclamation of recognition for his tireless efforts of the crucial cause of education in the state of Missouri. Carl was a community leader in both in Gower and Gallatin.
Carl was also well known in the real estate business as a Broker/Owner of the Carl Baker Real Estate in Gallatin. He took great pride in serving his customers.
He was a member of the Missouri State Teacher’s Association, the Gallatin & Gower Lion’s Club International where he served as President in both clubs; he was a member of the Gallatin Rotary Club and Kiwanis. He served on the Gallatin City Council for many years. Carl was always community minded, looking for improvements for the future. He worked tirelessly at fundraisers for the City of Gallatin raising funds for many community projects, such as the Community Swimming Pool.
He was a true outdoorsman whether hunting, fishing, traveling or attending to his flowers or garden. He loved to watch movies, was an avid reader, and true Historian. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. He took great pride in watching them excel. Carl was a life long student, educator and mentor, touching people in all walks of life.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents; Marvin & Grace Baker and his grandparents Fred and Edna Baker.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Pat of the home; daughters; Carla Arnold, Gallatin, Mo., Tina Kean, Shawnee, Ks., Becky Wycoff, Shawnee, Ks.; sons; Stan Baker, Moberly, Mo., Stacy Baker, Gallatin, Mo.; brothers; Mel Baker, Chillicothe, Mo., Lloyd Baker, Bee Branch, Ar. Grandchildren; Jeremy, Jamie, Jason, Drew, Blaise, Jaylee, Sarah, Nathan, and Ayden.
