Memorial services for Lula Belle Horn will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 19, at the First Presbyterian Church in Marshall. Inurnment will follow at the Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Marshall.

Lula Belle (Crockett) Horn, 89, died Sunday, July 13, 2008, at the Lake Viking Health Care Center.

Mrs. Horn was born in 1918 in Canon City, Colo. At the age of five her parents moved back to the Crockett family farm near Marshall, Mo. Lula was raised on that farm and helped her family run the Crockett dairy. She graduated from Missouri Valley College before teaching school.

In July of 1940 she married Wesley Horn of Hunnewell, Mo. She helped in the Horn Family General Merchandise and poultry and egg business and she worked long hours during the war packing poultry for the army. After moving to Kansas City in the late 1950’s, she returned to teaching at Center Jr. High School. While teaching there she obtained her MA from Missouri State University at Warrensburg.

She enjoyed retirement in her hometown of Marshall, where she participated in the life of the First Presbyterian Church, PEO, and the activities of the Missouri Valley College Alumni.

Mrs. Horn was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Wesley Horn.

Survivors include three daughters, Margie McCoy of Lee’s Summit, Janet Diaz of Gallatin, and May Willis of Gallatin, as well as seven grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
