Applications have been reviewed and the selection process completed. The newly eligible children have been enrolled and the process of health screening is underway.

Each Head Start child will receive screening for vision, hearing, and speech. Blood tests for anemia are a part of the screening process as well as any needed immunizations. Children also obtain a physical and dental examination by the appropriate provider. By completing a majority of the health screenings during the summer months, more time is available to obtain any necessary follow-up work prior to the beginning of classes or home visits.

Health (which includes medical and dental) is only one of the many components that comprise the Head Start Program. Head Start children and families also receive services from the nutrition, education, social services, parent involvement, disabilities, transition, and mental health components.

The Green Hills Head Start Program is sponsored by North Central Missouri College in Trenton. The Head Start Central Office staff is located in offices at 205 West 18th Street, Trenton. Another 59 staff members work directly with children and families on a day-to-day basis within the nine-county Green Hills area. The Head Start Program has had a great impact on families since it began in 1965 continually growing in its knowledge of both early childhood and provision of service to children and families.
