The Storm 14-under girls softball team recently competed in the "Cowtown Showdown" held in Basehor, Kan.

The Storm Team drew the Paola, Kan., Fireballs in the opening round for a 7-4 win. Second game of the day was against the Kansas City Spirit for a 7-0 win. Lee Summit Ice was the opponent for the final game. Sunday’s opponent was Smithville Sting who defeated Storm 6-5 in extra innings.

Storm Softball is a team comprised of girls from the surrounding area. Team members include Taylor Zimmerman and Kayla Bird from Maysville, Marissa McNeely from Gallatin, Amber Mullen, Rachel Brice and Baylea Martin from Winston, Courtney Warford from Pattonsburg and Kaylee Smith, Jessica Williams and Ashley Nail from Bethany. Coaches are Chad and Shelly Smith. The team saw action again in the Raytown tournament.

Storm 10-under girls capture championship of Grandview tournament

The Storm 10-under Girls Fastpitch Softball Team recently captured the championship of the Grandview VIP Tournament. Storm posted a 5-1 record in tournament play. In Saturday’s first game Storm defeated the Peculiar Bulldogs 10-5. Kelly Warford was the winning pitcher. In the second game Grand River Storm triumphed 7-1 . In the third game the Belton Diamonds defeated the Storm Team 6-1. Sunday morning saw the Lee Summit Angels as an opponent. Kelly Warford was the winning pitcher, 11-0. The semi-final game’s opponent were the Grandview Ladies. The Championship game was a rematch with the Peculiar Bulldogs for an 8-3 victory and the championship. Kelly Warford was the winning pitcher.

Team members for Storm 10-under are Jacki Haley from Maysville, Skylar Hall and Renae Brice from Winston, Katie Warford, Kelly Warford and Morgan Warner from Pattonsburg, Hannah Williams, Mackenze Daniel and Mattie Thomas from Bethany and Haley Craig and Alley Stanley from Eagleville. Coaches are Lee Warford, Buckweat Garder and Kathy Daniel.
