The Northwest Vipers 8 and Under Machine Pitch baseball team traveled to Overland Park, Kan., for the Hawaiian Hitfest tournament May 31-June 1.

The Vipers finished the tournament with a record of 1 win and 2 losses.In their opening game they beat the Smithville Storm by a score of 8-5. Jett Simmons of Gallatin had a run scored. Dalton Swalley of Gallatin tallied two runs batted in. The Vipers next game ended with a 13-4 loss to the Blue Valley Tigers. On Sunday, the Vipers began play in the single elimination tournament where they were the #6 seed. A 9-1 loss to the Overland Park Indians ended the Vipers tournament hopes. Swalley scored the lone run for the Northwest Vipers.

Prior to the Hawaiian Hitfest the Vipers competed in the MSP Classic tournament May 16-18, at Mid-America Sports Complex in Shawnee, Kan., going 0-3 in the tounament. In their second game, the Vipers lost by a score of 16-6 to the Blue Valley Tigers. Swalley had one run. In their final game of the tournament the Vipers lost to the Topeka Storm, 12-1. Swalley scored the only run for the Vipers.

The Vipers currently have a record of 5-8 and will play at the Southside Summer Slam at the Frank White Sports Complex in Lee’s Summit.

Nine and under Vipers travel to Hawaii

The 9 and under Northwest Vipers team traveled to the Hawaiian Hit Fest in Olathe, Kan., last weekend and were able to bring home a second place trophy. The finished the tournament with two wins and two losses. They played the Sliders from Leawood, Kan. The hitting was led by Craig Lewis of Winston, with two hits and three runs scored. In the first tournament game, Lewis scored runs in the contest. The Vipers will be back in action Father’s Day weekend at the Cowtown Tournament in Johnson County, Kan.

Northwest Vipers finish 3rd at Southside Summer Slam

The Northwest Vipers 8 and Under Machine Pitch baseball team earned a third place finish in the Southside Summer Slam tournament held June 7-8 at the Frank White Sports Complex in Lee’s Summit. The Vipers won their two pool play games on Saturday which gave them a top seed in the single elimination tournament on Sunday.

In their first game of the tournament, the Vipers run-ruled the Raytown Mudcats by a score of 12-2, in four innings of play. Leading the offensive charge for the Vipers was Jett Simmons of Gallatin. Simmons had three hits. Jacob Lewis of Winston had two hits.

In their second game, the Vipers had a rematch with the Smithville Storm. The Vipers’ defeated the Storm by a score of 15-5. Simmons and Lewis had two hits each. Lewis had four RBI.

With the two pool play wins, the Vipers earned the #1 seed in the single elimination bracket play on Sunday. The Vipers faced The Bats from Blue Springs and suffered an11-10 loss to end their tournament run. Dalton Swalley of Gallatin had two hits. Simmons and Lewis each had one hit. Lewis scored two runs while Simmons and Swalley scored one run apiece.

The Vipers had the best scoring average in the tournament with an average of 12.33 runs scored per game and the best run differential scoring an average of 6.33 more runs that their opponents. The Vipers’ record now stands at 7-9. They will next see action June 21-22 at the Sports America TPX Summer Classic at the Frank White Sports Complex in Lee’s Summit.
