Operation Round Up uses the "power" of cooperative member participation to provide additional revenues to FEC’s Area Youth Benefit fund (AYBF), a 501 (c) 3 charity that pays medical bills for children 18 years of age and under. At this writing, the AYBF has donated nearly $400,000 to families in its nine-county service territory.

Members of Farmers’ Electric can now voluntarily choose to have their monthly energy bill "rounded up" to the next whole dollar. For example, if an electric bill for the month was $97.63, the bill would automatically be rounded up to $98. The $0.37 contribution, along with the contributions of other FEC members, would be placed in the AYBF.

A separate Board of Directors oversees the AYBF charity’s request for assistance and provides guidance in other areas, as well.

By participating in the Operation Round Up program the most money an FEC member could possibly contribute annually is just $11.88. The average Round Up participant contributes about $6 a year.

"This is a very easy way for our members to help local families who are burdened with medical bills for their children," said Mike Sanders, FEC CEO. "Plus, I want to empathize participation in the Operation Round Up program is completely voluntary."

A special insert enclosed with the July 1 FEC bill will arrive in the mail in a few weeks. Members just need to fill in the few bits of information on the sign up sheet, sign the form and return it in the mail with their bill.

"Through the generous donation of our members, their cooperative’s charity can have a major impact on area families that are struggling to pay expensive medical bills for children," said Sanders. "This goes along so well with our slogan, ‘Together, we have the power to make a difference.’"
