The Gallatin Board of Aldermen agreed to retain Snyder & Associates Engineering Services for the construction of a new water plant during their regular meeting held Monday, June 9, at city hall.

After an executive session, Matthew Chambers was hired for the utility position in the public works department with a six month probation period and starting wage of $12/hour.

Mr. Johnson submitted a proposal for street work this summer. City crews will put a new asphalt overlay on the following streets and number of blocks: Ash, 3; North Adams, 1; North Daviess, 2; Hill Street, 2; South Clay, 3; Walnut Street, 2; Dunnington, 1; East Mill, 4; South Prospect.

Mr. Johnson commented on a dangerous intersection that needs to be looked at by the police department at Mill and Willow Street. Mr. Johnson said there were bushes planted too close to the road, making visibility an issue. He said he would visit with the property owner.

Police Officer Franken reported on activity from May 29 to June 9. Reports Taken/Tickets Given: 1-no insurance; 1-DWI; 1-child molestation; 1-peace disturbance; 1-dog at large; 1-out of county warrant arrest; 1-driving while license suspended; 5-speeding; 1-attempted suicide; 1-driving while suspended; 1-uninvited solicitation. There are six dogs in the pound.

Officer Franken reported that Police Chief Richards has been off due to a family emergency. He said Wal-Mart had donated several bags of dog food again.

Bills in the amount of $138,463.78 were approved for payment.

The board entered into executive session pursuant to hiring, firing, disciplining or promoting employees.

Scott Stephens was supposed to submit the 2007 audit but was absent due to health issues.

No action was taken on an ordinance authorizing the city administrator to sign and execute the water tank maintenance contract with utility service company for water tower maintenance.

Discussion was held on the financial statement.

Mr. Johnson commented on changing city uniforms.

Comments were made by the aldermen regarding stray cats.
