The Winston R-6 Board of Education offered contracts and accepted resignations during their regular meeting held Thursday, May 15. The following contracts were offered for the next school year (08-09): Christy Jessen for elementary and Nina Cooperrider for junior high English. Rick Flint was hired as custodian. Jessica Gannan was approved as cheerleading sponsor; Barbara Malone as para-professional; Linda Warford as Federal Programs Coordinator; and Bruce Bielby as special education coordinator.

The following resignations were approved: Lisa Bielby, superintendent, at the end of the next school year (2008-2009); Nicole Pulliam, second grade teacher, and Chanel Burge, junior high English, at the end of this school year (2007-2008).

Letters from teaching candidates were reviewed.

The board approved policy updates and reviewed upcoming policy updates.

The CSIP Plan was approved, with changes that had been accepted.

Crisis update was discussed. Lucille Lusk will coordinate a community emergency drill.

Elementary principal reported an enrollment of 16 in preschool and 90 in kindergarten through sixth grade, with a 96.49% attendance rate. Students of the Month were Cy Uthe and Debbie Stocton.

High school principal reported an enrollment of 73 for seventh through 12 grade and an attendance rate of 92.53%. Students of the Month were Ryan Curtis and Briana Heldenbrand.

John Loyd and Dan Ayres addressed the board concerning a personnel matter.

The board approved pay for extra-curricular bus trips at a rate of $10 per hour/with no lunch allowance.

The board voted to accept an extra-duty pay scale with steps for extra-curricular personnel, beginning 08-09 school year. Additions to this are to compensate NHS sponsor and elementary student council sponsor at a rate of 1% of base salary.

The board voted to continue health insurance with United Healthcare and pay 100% of premiums for qualifying staff members.

The board voted to purchase cheerleading uniforms beginning with the next school year on a rotation bases.

CD will be renewed for 91 days, beginning May 20. Current CD amount is $66,288.10.

The board will take bids on the purchase of a new bus for the 08-09 school year.

The board entered into executive session to discuss a discipline issue.
