Gallatin’s Derrick McBroom and Vince Wiley broke into a top ten of Grand River Conference golfers dominated by South Harrison and Hamilton during league golfing Monday at Daviess County Country Club.
South Harrison won the team competition and Hamilton finished a distant second, but both schools were dominant in singles action. South Harrison’s Jordan Shipers won the medalist award and was joined in the top group by three varsity teammates. Hamilton’s Cale Brown was runnerup and two other Hornets cracked the top ten.
Gallatin, led by McBroom’s 87 and fourth place finish, plus Wiley’s 88 that took fifth, finished third in team standings. Brandon Ness shot 110 for the Bulldogs, Robert Rhoades 111 and Terrill Wood 112.
“I was glad to see Derrick and Vince medal,” said their coach, Chris Elbert.
Team standings reflected the following: South Harrison 342, Hamilton 357, Gallatin 396, Worth County 408, Maysville 420, Albany 474, Stanberry 516 and King City 537.
Earning all-conference recognition for their individual play were: Jordan Shipers (SH) 78, Cale Brown (H) 81, Logan Kelim (SH) 84, Garrett Hawks (WC) 84, Logan Kadolph (SH) 87, Derrick McBroom (G) 87, Vince Wiley (G) 88, Sam Fairchild (H) 89, Dylan Holloway (SH) 93 and John Schieber (H) 93.
The Bulldogs fell to Hamilton, 180 to 194, last Thursday in a makeup meet held at Daviess County Country Club. McBroom copped the medalist award in windy conditions by shooting a round of 39.
Wiley and Ness each carded rounds of 51. Wood added a 53 as the Dogs dropped to 9-8 in meets this season.
McBroom will compete in the MSHSAA Class 1 Golf Championships next Monday and Tuesday at Silo Ridge Golf and Country Club in Bolivar.
