The North Daviess Board of Education offered a contract to Jack Bains for high school math; David Michael for middle school math; and Angel Michael for 7-12 grade science upon returning to open session after a closed meeting of the North Daviess Board of Education held Monday, April 14.
A letter of resignation turned in by Elmer Jackson was approved.
Superintendent Julie Kirby informed the board that the Pattonsburg school district has a 1996 Chevy diesel 19 passenger bus with 81,000 miles that is for sale. The board will consider purchase if the bus goes up for bid.
The board was updated on change in the cost of participating in the Alternative School. The board carried a motion to not commit to the Alternative School.
Election results were Axel Olson 58; Jason Lewis 52; Jeremy Hunter 51; Beverly Hunter 48; and Chris Nelson 30. Election results were accepted for new members, Olson, Lewis and Hunter. They were sworn in and signed their oath. The old board adjourned and the new board was called to order.
Cecil McCrary and David Iddings were nominated for president with the vote as follows: McCrary 4 yes, 1 abstain; Iddings 2 yes, 2 abstain. Mr. McCrary is the new president. Jason Lewis will be vice-president with the vote 6 yes, 1 abstain. Jeremy Hunter will be the secretary with the vote 6 yes, 1 abstain. Debbie Ray will be treasurer with the vote 6 yes, 1 abstain.
In other business at Monday’s meeting, the financial statement was present and bills approved for payment.
During citizen communications, Nicki Voth and Tammy DeJong requested to bring their children to North Daviess school district in order to participate in the preschool program.
Justin Ganser requested he be released from his contract in the event he found a job closer to home.
Career ladder was approved for three teachers: Annette Lowrey, Mary McCrary and Gregg Hartley.
Suzanne Slaughter, Gregg Hartley, Deva Lanning, Annette Lowrey and Mary McCrary were approved by the board to participate in the 2008-2009 career ladder.
The Class of 2008 was certified.
During administrative reports, Mrs. Weldon informed the board of Gregg Hartley’s graduation from Teacher Academy. Junior/Senior prom went well. Spanish classes went to El Nopal for lunch. Two students went to FFA State Convention April 17 and 18. April 19 was FCCLA Spring Fling Dance. May 6 will be the FCCLA/FFA Banquet.
Mrs. Morris announced that elementary tournament earned about $2,800 for the elementary fund. Nine preschoolers signed up for the 2008-2009 school year. The Book Fair and Family Fun Night was held April 19. K-2 grade will go to the Bethany Park and get pizza and grades 3-6 will go to Roll-A-Roma and the park and have pizza as a MAP incentive. May 2 will be Food for America Day and May 9 will be the spring program. The renewal insurance quotes were presented.
The board entered into executive session for employee matters.
The board agreed to pay $350 on the renewal base insurance plan and to pay $380 on the buy-up plan for school employees.
Next board meeting was set for 7 p.m. on Monday, May 19, at Coffey.
