The Northwest Vipers 8 & under machine pitch baseball team started the 2008 campaign with a 2-1 showing in the Golden Glove Tournament held April 27-28 in Liberty.

The team is made up of boys from Conception, Gallatin, Maryville, Stanberry, St. Joseph and Winston, and is coached by Rob Dowis of Conception, Eric Lewis and BillWalker.
In their opening game of the tournament, the Vipers defeated the Bulldogs, 18-17. They followed that up with a 12-5 victory over the Titans in their second pool play game. The Vipers took a #3 seed and 2-0 record into single elimination bracket play.
The Vipers’ run in the tournament ended with a 23-20 loss to Blue Springs in an offensive slugfest.
Jett Simmons and Dalton Swalley, both of Gallatin; Cy Uthe and Jacob Lewis, both of Winston were among the offensive stars for the Vipers. The Vipers will see action this weekend at the KC Slugfest Tournament in Shawnee, Kan.
