More than 200,000 children were sent west, most from the streets of New York City, between 1853 and 1929.
The New York Children’s Aid Society  and the New York Catholic Foundling Home sought to find homes of the children among farm families in the midwest. The first train load of children were sent to Dowaiac, Mich., in 1853, one of the last brought eight boys into Trenton, in April of 1929.
A Family History Workshop will be held at 10 a.m. May 3, followed by lunch at the church at 11:45. After lunch descendants will share their stories, followed by a presentation of Free Genealogical Web Sites. Registrations should be sent to: Richard Pistole, 2408 Ivy Court, St. Joseph, MO 64503-2033 by April 25.
