I know it’s been awhile since I wrote a message for the paper, but like most of you with all this dreary old weather, it was hard to find anything positive to write about. I did notice many of you took advantage of our city-wide spring clean up, while some of you must have missed the advertised date. So don’t despair, I’m sure our trash service will gladly take a few extra bags of trash each week for you. Please join those who take pride in their property and keep it junk free and mowed. It makes our town look so much nicer, and will give you a sense of pride in yourself.
Many of you stopped me to talk about the numerous pot holes in our streets. I assure you that our city crews have that prioritized on their work list. But weather conditions, supply and demand of the product, and equipment repairs are all being organized so that when the time is right the streets will be worked on.
Please don’t think that your street is in any worse repair than the next. Old Man Winter was not easy on any of them, not only in Gallatin but statewide. Our city crews will get to them ASAP. So when the work begins, please give them the courtesy they deserve and re-route your errands to accommodate them. We are all in this together, so pull out your patience and be ready for street work to start when the weather cooperates.
Since I’m talking about our city crews, didn’t they go above and beyond to clean up from the ice storm? Muddy properties or limbs frozen solidly in the ground, made it tough for them for several weeks. But they persevered, and now I think they finally have that behind them.
Since the April election is behind us, I want to thank J.D. Dowel for his commitment to our city these past few years. He brought a lot of knowledge and ideas to the council table each month. Thank you, J.D. I am excited about our new board member, John Whitfield. I know he’ll be a big asset to the council and I am excited to start working with him, knowing that John and the board of aldermen have all got the best interest in mind to move froward with Gallatin.
With the month of May being the official month for Missourians to be extra aware of motorcyclists, two area Missouri chapters of the Freedom Of The Road Riders (FORR) are once again riding in Northwest Missouri to area towns that proclaim they will make their community aware of motorcycle season. This year is no exception for Gallatin. The motorcyclists will leave Cameron City Hall at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, and are inviting all motorcyclists to join them on a fun-filled ride from town to town. The group will end their ride in Gallatin at the courthouse lawn on Saturday, April 26, at approximately 5 p.m. to receive the city of Gallatin’s proclamation. Everyone is invited to ride or attend the proclamation acceptance. Area FORR chapters will then gather all proclamations and take them to Jefferson City to show support of Motorcycle Awareness Month in Missouri.
Until next time,
