Gallatin R-5 golfers found better weather along the way as they were finally able to handle a full week of their 2008 schedule.
The Bulldogs took on Hamilton head-to-head Monday at Lake View Golf Course, and fell by 8 strokes, 177 to 185. However, Derrick McBroom came through on a tough course by shooting a round of 40, good enough for the runnerup honor.
Vince Wiley turned in a solid round with a 44. Brandon Ness shot 49, Matt Pottorff carded a 52 and Robert Rhoades added a 53 for the Bulldog varsity.
Logan Henderson paced the jayvee unit with a 49, followed by Ryan Hicks 56, Alex Critten 58, Jim Willett 58 and Tyler Toney 65.
“We had really nice weather,” Coach Chris Elbert said of Monday’s outing at Hamilton. “Derrick played pretty well and I continue to see improvement from several golfers, including Vince Wiley, Brandon Ness and Logan Henderson,” he added.
Plattsburg’s tournament action, rescheduled from April 10th, featured individual, two-man best ball and two-man best shot play. McBroom shot nine-hole rounds of 49 and 46 to finish with 95 in individual play. Wiley and Rhoades combined for a 92 in best ball action, while Pottorff and Ness combined for a round of 90 in best shot play.
The Bulldogs finished 15th in the Cameron Invitational Golf Tournament held last Friday at Cameron Veterans’ Memorial Golf Course.
Gallatin golfers combined for a team total of 395 to finish one stroke behind Lathrop. Lawson won the team title with a combined 303.
