Police Chief Mark Richards presented the Gallatin Board of Aldermen with some general statistics during their regular meeting held Feb. 25 at city hall.
Chief Richards stated that in 2007 the Gallatin Police officers conducted 109 traffic stops and 179 case/incident numbers were drawn for reportable crimes within the city.
Up to Feb. 25 in 2005, the police handled 23 cases; in 2006 they handled 55 cases; in 2007 they handled 24 cases; in 2008 they handled 21 cases. In 2006 there were a rash of break-ins to vehicles during that two month time-frame that made the numbers higher than average. Two people were prosecuted for those break-ins. He added that the numbers represent criminal activity, not traffic violations.
Chief Richards said some of the statistical information he shared with the city council had come from the annual Missouri racial profiling reports the police were required to compile for the Attorney General.
