Bulldogs earn second GRC victory, seeded 6th in District 16

Gallatin’s boys roared out of the starting gate last Friday night on their way to a 67-43 victory over Stanberry in their final Grand River Conference game of the season.

The Bulldogs (2-7) put together a solid first quarter and after sprinting to an 18-0 lead, settled for a 24-5 spread at the end of the period. Gallatin subbed freely in the second half and finished with a balanced scoring attack, led by Kayle Hefley with 16 points.

Ben Adams added 13, Derrick Sprague contributed 10, Andy Ward scored 9 and Colton Selby chipped in 8 for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs lost a tight game to Maysville last Thursday, 61-57. Gallatin led, 23-9, early, and 33-29 at the break. The Wolverines came back to tie the game, 47-47, at the end of the third and edged the Dogs in the final eight minutes to claim the win.

Hefley led all scorers with 22 points. Sprague and Brown chipped in 12 and 11, respectively, for Gallatin.

Last night (Tuesday) saw the Bulldogs fall to the LeBlond Golden Eagles, 78-21, in St. Joseph. Hefley’s nine points were a team high in that contest.

Gallatin’s boys are seeded sixth in next week’s Class 2, District 16 Tournament being held at Albany High School. The Bulldogs will face the host Warriors at 6:15 on Monday, with hopes of advancing to a Wednesday, 8 p.m. meeting with either #2 Putnam County or #7 Maysville.
