Brianna Weber, daughter of Michael and Janellda Weber, a senior at North Daviess, returned home Jan. 29 from Washington D.C. She, along with six other students and seven adults from KSSB, left early Saturday, Jan. 26. The trip was sponsored by the National Park Service Discovery Trail/ Students-Oregon Trail program.
Brianna and part of the group had gone on a two week camping trip along the Oregon Trail last summer. The head teacher, Eleanor Craig, and a student from Watertown, Tenn., were selected to accept the “Growing Taller” award for the group. On Monday, the entire group presented a program at a special elementary school that teaches with art, for the fourth grade class. They presented some of the things they did and learned on the Oregon Trial, which included teaching dance, and how to make small bags called parfleche that the Native Americans used.
Some of the things Brianna liked about the trip included flying on a big plane, seeing the capital, where she had her picture taken with Senator Sam Graves, the Washington Monument, the Museum of Native American History, the Spy Museum, touring the White House, seeing the Vietnam Memorial and attending a jazz concert at the Kennedy Center.
