The Grindstone Gobblers Spring Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) hosted its Second Annual Spring Hunting Heritage Banquet at the Lake Viking Club House on Jan. 11. Cody Selby, Gallatin, was the recipient of the local chapter’s $500 scholarship.

Local programs supported from money raised at the banquet include wildlife conservation; a local high school scholarship; Junior Acquiring Knowledge, Ethics, and Sportsmanship (JAKES), a youth outreach program; Women in the Outdoors program; and Wheelin’ Sportsman, a program that provides outdoor opportunities for the physically disabled.

The NWTF is a grassroots non-profit organization founded in 1973. The NWTF has over 2,300 chapters in 50 states and Canada with 122 chapters currently active in Missouri. The NWTF has raised over $55 million for research and conservation projects benefitting the American wild turkey and other wildlife. Eighty percent of money raised directly supports wild turkey projects, with more than 60% designated for Missouri programs.
