There have been over 600 bills filed so far in the Missouri House of Representatives this session and there will likely be about that many more filed.
My general philosophy is that we already have 20 volumes of statutes in place and it is hard to justify any more. Fortunately, most of these new proposals (about 90% in fact) will not make it through the complex system of becoming law. Some of the proposals will only make modifications to existing law and will not introduce new subject matter, but some will.
My job as your State Representative is to pass along the appropriate collective input during the decision-making process. That is also where your job comes in because I need your viewpoints, either regarding specific bills or in generalities that I can interpret as the occasion arises.
Those of you who have internet access can review each of the proposals by exercising the following steps:
1) Go to
www.house.mo.gov
2) In the left column, click on Bill Information and then Bill Tracking;
3) If you click on “Bill List,” you can see all of the bills filed so far for the 2008 session;
4) If you would like to look up bills regarding a particular subject, go to “Search” and type in the subject, for instance, “education,” then click search and all bills relating to education will show up under that search box.
You can also pass along your opinions by emailing us at
[email protected], or by calling us in Jefferson City at 573-751-1649 or writing us at the State Capitol, 201 West Capitol Avenue, Jefferson City, MO 65101-6806.
Please forgive me if I do not respond personally, but I do review each piece of correspondence I receive and take into consideration your opinions when voting on a bill.
I’m doing the best I can to keep up on all the various subjects, but at this time of session, I’m mostly reactionary to the Budget process and all the necessary information that is processed through the Budget committee that I serve on.
