The Daviess-DeKalb Regional jail houses about 300 people five months out of the year and the amount of traffic takes its toll on the facility.

Jail Administrator Larry Hadley said the “B” bay, pictured above, holds about 33 inmates. The concrete showers will get a stainless steel overlay and non-stick floors; the plumbing will get new pipes and new wiring.
The “dog leg” of the shower makes it difficult to see what is going on down the aisle and so an infra-red camera was repositioned to get a better view. The labor to upgrade the facility is being done by trustees and inmates.
The bay area has a television, telephones and a microwave. The TV has gotten new wiring and a plexi-glass shield. Inmates eat off of picnic tables at the forward end of the bay.
Jail Administrator Larry Hadley sits inside a surveillance room at the jail. Multiple cameras capture activity inside and outside the jail in real time on multiple screens. The screen Mr. Hadley is viewing is broadcasting from 16 cameras.
There are 36 cameras in the facility, plus one on top of the building and in the outside recreation area.
A head count is taken by trustees every 30 minutes and the number is radioed to the control room to make sure the numbers match up. Ironically, this picture was taken on Friday afternoon, Jan. 25. That same day two prisoners escaped from the annex building of the prison at around 9:20 p.m.
