Albany’s girls outscored Gallatin from the foul line, 13 to 8, but the Lady Bulldogs had the last word by hitting four bonus free throw shots to close out a 44-35 Grand River Conference victory on Friday.
Gallatin jumped out to a lead but saw Albany close to 15-12 early in the second period. A 10-0 run by the Lady Bulldogs stretched the gap to 25-12, but the Lady Warriors closed again to 27-18 at the break.
The Lady Bulldogs seemingly had the game well in hand in the third quarter but Albany took advantage of turnovers and unforced mistakes to cut a double digit deficit down to 38-33 with four minutes remaining in the game.
Gallatin slipped into a four-corner spread to kill the clock with 1:44 showing but a quick shot led to a foul and pair of free throws for Albany’s Mairnee Manring. The Lady Bulldogs hit four free throws in a span of 14 seconds to ice the game. Both squads were content to let the final 20 seconds tick off the clock.
Wren Tolen scored 15 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs, who raised their overall record to 11-3 and conference mark to 3-0. Courtney Ray added eight to the GHS total. Ashley Owens and Tye Humphrey each tallied six points for the Lady Bulldogs.
Gallatin travels to Hamilton next Tuesday to take on the Lady Hornets in a battle of unbeaten teams in the GRC. Gallatin, Hamilton and South Harrison each sport 3-0 league marks following Friday night’s play.
