“Take two aspirins and call me in the morning.” That’s an old punch line to many a doctor’s joke. That prescription was the answer to almost any illness it seems. In Congress, some have a similar remedy for any problem. They want to take more of your money to create more regulations and government programs.
The December jobs report showed that last month fewer jobs were created than at anytime during the last four years. An agenda of $250 billion more in new taxes and anti-growth policies are taking their toll on our economy. Yet, some are proposing even more tax increases, including a 1.3 Trillion dollar tax increase. It is exactly the wrong thing to do for our economy.
Keeping taxes low and holding the line on spending will give the risk takers and entrepreneurs who create jobs, more incentive to invest in a new idea or to add new jobs. Small businesses create seven out of every 10 new jobs in this country. Yet, Washington seems intent on making it harder and harder for them.
I will continue to fight against tax increases that take money out of your pocket. Its typical Washington arrogance to believe that bureaucrats will do a better job of spending your money than you do. Our economy works best when Washington lets people keep more of their own money.
Our economy needs less taxes and less bureaucratic red tape. That is a prescription that is good for everyone.
