With our electricity now on, we truly realize how much we depend on our modern appliances and necessities of everyday living. Old Man Winter arrived here in a fury and left us all wondering what would come next. And next came the snow.
A big thank you goes out to our city crews and volunteers who worked hours and days non-stop to get our power back on. Only to face a blanket of snow that had to be reckoned with.
Our community and city was pleased and relieved when Hannibal, sent over a crew of lineman to help our exhausted, wet, cold and tired guys restore power to our community. We are truly thankful for them and their help. With our guys working side by side with them and directing them in an unknown town, most everyone had power within a relatively short outage. Especially compared to those in Northwest Missouri and Kansas still without power and no time frame for their outages to be restored.
We still have lots of tree trimming, removal and line repairs, but we must think positive and let the guys have a few restful nights. They, at the least, deserve that.
It makes me proud to live in this community and hear the “thank yous” for their hard and dedicated work, and I pass them all on to the guys. They also received drinks, food, snacks, hot coffee and hot chocolate from concerned citizens and groups, who kept the power plant stocked for all of them.
Thank you, Gallatin, for stepping up to the plate and working together to help one another. This is what it’s all about, and proves to me that you do get it. Working together through hard times and good times makes our community a great place to be. This is what our Christmas season is all about – it is truly better to give than to receive.
Thank yous to the Gallatin community for your gift of giving and Merry Christmas to all and to all a good, warm, and electric filled night.
Until next time,
Barb Ballew,
Gallatin Mayor
