On Oct. 23 Walker Excavation from Cameron began preparing the building site and dug the footings for the building. Copeland Construction and Development from Chillicothe poured the footings, set the forms and completed the preparation for the floor. On Nov. 2 the crew from Bottorff Construction from Atchison, Kan., arrived early and by the end of the day the floor was poured, smoothed and the expansions joints were cut.
The following week Copeland’s crew began to build the walls and by the Thanksgiving weekend the trusses were in place. Following the Thanks- giving snowstorm the roof was sheeted and Teddy Holcomb of Gallatin and his crew arrived to shingle the roof. As the roof was going on Sargent’s Glass Company from Chillicothe was installing the windows and doors, Thompson Plumbing from Cameron was installing the water and drain lines and Penner Electric from Trenton was beginning to pull the electric wires.
The interior is coming together as the crew from Copeland’s has framed in the chancel and built the frame for the stained glass window that will be between the new gathering area and the sanctuary. Currently the stained glass from the uptown sanctuary is being rebuilt by the Tobiason Studio from St. Joseph, and the sound system has been designed and is currently being installed by Sound Works from Agency.
“We are very pleased with the progress of the building,” said Pastor Russ Hamilton. “This week the synthetic stucco is being applied to the front of the building and the roof should be completed by the end of the week if the weather holds. All the crews are wonderful to work with and we appreciate the way everyone uses their talents to make our dream of a new ministry space become a reality.
“We hope to be worshiping in the new building by the end of April 2008.”
