It’s time to start the “to do” list for holiday cards and packages. The postal service is reminding customers that deadlines for sending holiday packages are approaching, particularly for those going to U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Miliary mail to Iraq and Afghanistan as well as all other military mail to overseas destinations have a Dec. 11 suggested mailing deadline.
Those sending cards and packages within the Untied States have a little more leeway.
The postal service’s suggested deadline for sending first class or priority mail is Dec. 20. Customers have until Dec. 22 to send Christmas packages by express mail.
The postal service expects to deliver about 20 billion cards, packages and letters between Thanksgiving and Christmas. It predicts that the volume processed each day will reach a peak of about one billion the busiest day, Dec.17.
The Gallatin Post Office is open 8:30 to 4:30 Monday through Friday and 8:30 to 11:30 on Saturday.
