The school budget was presented and the school audit was approved during the regular meeting of the Winston R-6 Board of Education held Wednesday, Dec. 19. The superintendent evaluation was completed.
At their regular meeting held Monday, Dec. 17, Superintendent Julie Kirby presented the North Daviess Board of Education the data from the Final Adequate Yearly Progress Report, including how the district performed in all subgroup areas. The school met the state requirements for all categories.
Twenty-two high schools from Missouri are participating in the 3rd Annual High School Holiday Shoot-Out sponsored by North Central Missouri College Foundation and held on the campus of NCMC in Trenton.
The four-day event begins Dec. 2 with eight games scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday and five games on Monday, Dec. 31.
The even will feature a total of 29 games with participants from 38 different ball clubs (girls and boys).
The Gallatin peewee wrestling mini camp and tournament is approaching for athletes at Covel D. Searcy Elementary School.

Gallatin R-5 athletic director Chris Elbert has announced that junior varsity basketball games against Hamilton will be played at Gallatin on Jan. 3. One girls game will be played, followed by two boys games.

Gallatin varsity basketballers traveled to Gower last Thursday night to complete make up game with the East Buchanan Bulldogs.
Traffic stop nets 200 pounds of marijuana bricks

Michael Ervin, 39, Kansas City, was charged Dec. 20 with possession of controlled substance with intent to distribute, class B felony. During a traffic stop on I-35, Trooper G.D. Primm and Cpl. Brian Hagerty conducted a probable cause vehicle search of Ervin’s truck, due to the odor of marijuana. Four trash bags of marijuana, approximately 200 pounds in compressed brick form, were located under the covered bed of the truck. Bond was set at $100,000.

The Gallatin Board of Aldermen approved a resolution amending the fiscal year 2007 budget to reflect actual expenditures during their regular meeting held Thursday, Dec. 20, at city hall.
The Gallatin Pride Band will be leaving the Gallatin School at 11:30 p.m. (or thereabouts) on Friday, Dec. 28, with plans to ring in the New Year at Cotton Bowl festivities in Dallas, Texas.
Escorted by Gallatin fire trucks, the buses will head east on Richardson Street to Highway 13, then head north for Highway 6. Supporters are encouraged to line the bus route as the band leaves town. On Dec. 20, at approximately 7:30 p.m., a member of the Missouri State Highway Patrol stopped a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche pickup on I-35 at the 58-mile marker for a traffic violation.
