Funeral services for Herbert Whitt were held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday) at the First Christian Church, Gallatin. Interment was at Hillcrest Cemetery, Gallatin. Arrangements were by McWilliams Funeral Home, Gallatin. Memorials may be made to the Gallatin First Christian Church Building Fund.

Herbert Whitt, 89, Gallatin, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2007, at the Cameron Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Whitt was born Sept.10, 1918, to Harley and Clara (Place) Whitt in rural Daviess County. He attended school in Carlow and later at the Whitt School south of Gallatin.
Mr. Whitt was united in marriage to Cecilia Catherine Smith in August of 1935 in Aurora, Ill. The couple made their home on a farm northeast of town where they lived and raised their four children; moving to Gallatin in 1983. Herb and Cecilia continued to row crop before completely retiring in January of 2006
During Mr. Whitt’s life he served on many boards. He was on the Union Township County Road District Board for over 50 years, served on the Johnson School Board as well as the Gallatin R-5 School District Board. He chaired the Dick and LaVonne Thomas Scholarship Fund for many years. He was on the MFA Board and represented this area at the State convention for over 50 years.
He was a member of the First Christian Church in Gallatin for over 50 years, where he served in many capacities. He was on the building committee, Trustee of the Board, Deacon, greeter and usher. In April of 2007 Herb was honored the title of Deacon/Trustee of Emeritus, the highest honor to bestow upon a member.
Mr. Whitt was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Vivian Meir, Carolyn Severe, Elsie Cornett, and Kathy Thomas, and brother Jim Whitt.
Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Cecilia of the home; two daughters, Betty Bashford of Cameron, and Mary Campbell of Chula Vista, Calif.; two sons, Don Whitt of Kansas City, and Larry Whitt of Weston;. seven brothers, Boyd Whitt, Galesburg, Ill., Ollus Whitt, Bethany, Dean Whitt, Maysville, Richard Whitt, Hamilton, Ivan Whitt, Maysville, Daryl Whitt, Hamilton, and Gary Whitt of Cameron; two sisters, Daisy Pierce of Jamesport, and Evelyn McGuire of Maysville; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
