Mr. Bernatz was born in Decorah, Iowa, on Oct. 1, 1915, to Frank and Martha Bernatz.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Mary Elizabeth (Meadows), formerly of Pattonsburg; one daughter, Patricia Henderson; and one son, Steven Bernatz; one brother, Philip Bernatz; sister-in-law, Barbara (Meadows) Gleghorn and brother-in-law, Forrest Meadows, both formerly of Pattonsburg; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
