A funeral service for Kay Simon will be held at 2:30 p.m. today, Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007, at Ward Funeral Home in Washington, Kan. Burial will be in the Washington City Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established and will benefit the United Methodist Church in Washington. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, Washington, Kan. Cynthia Kathleen “Kay” Simon, 95, of Washington, Kan., died Friday, Sept. 14, 2007, at Medicalodge in Leavenworth, Kan.
Mrs. Simon was born Aug. 25, 1912, on a farm in Daviess County, the daughter of James Elby and Cynthia Ann (Slaughter) Meadows.
On June 15, 1935, she married Wayne Walter Simon at the United Methodist Church in Washington, Kan.
He preceded her in death on Nov. 2, 1982.
Mrs. Simon was a member of the United Methodist Church in Washington for over 70 years where she was a Sunday School superintendent and teacher, played the church organ for 35 years, and a member of the United Methodist Women.
She was also a member of Wimodausis and Royal Neighbors of America.
She worked for Stigge Clothing in Washington from 1956 until the store closed.
She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne Walter; one brother, Truman Menyard Meadows; seven sisters, Virginia Edith Stamper, Mary Brook Landes, Ermina Myrrl Cairy, Anna Delight Meadows, Marjorie Rosalie Meadows, James Josephine Johnson and Agnes Elizabeth Meadows; and son-in-law, Leo A. Braconnier.
Survivors include three daughters, Fredericka A. Braconnier of Leavenworth, Kan., Karen M. Pugh of Arvada, Colo., and Annette I. Mustard of Lansing, Kan.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
