Gallatin’s Lady Bulldogs nearly made it to the first pitch Tuesday night before skies unloaded at Trenton and non-conference contest was washed out by a heavy downpour. Maybe it was just as well for Trenton’s weary girls.

Coming off a 17-inning loss to Putnam County on Monday, Trenton doubtless needed a night of rest. Gallatin now looks to Thursday’s Grand River Conference showdown at home against Hamilton.

The Lady Hornets, who shared last season’s conference crown with the Lady Bulldogs, are a long shot, at best, to reap a share of this year’s title, but they would like nothing more than to assume a spoiler role in Gallatin’s title plans. Hamilton, 4-2 in the league, owns losses to South Harrison and Princeton in GRC play.

The Lady Bulldogs shut out Lawson, 4-0, on Monday behind a balanced attack at the plate and Dixon’s solid performance on the mound.

Strange drove in a pair of runs with a double. Ray singled, scored twice and stole three bases. Chadwick singled, tripled and drove in a run. Owens singled, stole a base and scored.

Dixon faced just four batters over the minimum in seven innings, striking out four along the way.

In addition to seeing Hamilton on Thursday, Gallatin will also participate in Saturday’s Penney High Softball Tournament.

Following is the schedule for Saturday. Times are approximate. In case of rain and wet fields, the tournament will be played at Chillicothe’s Danner Park.

9 a.m. — Meadville JV vs. Hamilton JV, North field; LeBlond Varsity vs. North Platte Varsity, South field. 10:30 a.m. — North Platte JV vs. Meadville JV, North field; Gallatin Varsity vs. Hamilton Varsity, South field. Noon — LeBlond Varsity vs. Gallatin Varsity, North field; Hamilton Varsity vs. North Platte Varsity, South field. 1:30 p.m. — Hamilton JV vs. North Platte JV, North field; Gallatin Varsity vs. North Platte Varsity, South field. 3 p.m. — LeBlond Varsity vs. Hamilton Varsity.

Gallatin traveled to Albany last Thursday and came away with a 5-2 victory that tightened the Lady Bulldog grip on the top spot in the Grand River Conference.

Dixon went 2-for-4 at the plate, scored twice and drove in three runs for the Lady Bulldogs. She also stole a pair of bases and struck out 11 in earning her ninth victory of the season.

Chadwick ripped three hits at the plate and stole a base. Strange singled, tripled and scored twice. Ray had two hits, a stolen base and run scored.
