A food relief program is now available to Daviess County and area citizens.
Angel Food Ministries makes a box of food averaging about $60 at normal retail value for $25. Cash orders may be placed at the First Christian Church, Gallatin. Orders are by cash only.
Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing food relief in the United States. The program began with 34 families in Monroe, GA, in 1994. Today tens of thousands of families across the country benefit from the food and through the salvation tracts that are placed in each box of food.
Angel Food’s menus are sold by the box at $25 per box. Each month’s menu consists of both fresh and frozen items. One box of food assists in feeding a family of four for about one week, or a single senior citizen for almost a month.
Food offered through this program is the same high quality one would purchase at a common retailer – not damaged or outdated goods.
There is no limit to the number of boxes an individual can purchase. There are no applications or qualifications. Because Angel Food Ministries is non-profit, food purchased to donate to someone in need may be fully tax-deductible as a charitable donation. Orders and payments are collected by the host site during the first part of each month, then turned in to the Angel Food main office on a predetermined date. The following week the host site picks up the food from Angel Food’s warehouse to fill the orders on distribution day.
Volunteers from the Gallatin First Christian Church will perform a variety of duties to make this program work. Orders for October are due Monday, Oct. 1, for distribution on Saturday, Oct. 13. Menu specials are available with the purchase of a regular box unit.
