Led by a round of 92 from senior Kathryn Everly, Gallatin’s female golfers swept to a second place finish Tuesday in the Gallatin Invitational Tournament held at Daviess County Country Club.
Cameron, with two golfers shooting under 100 for 18 holes, finished with a team score 381 to hold off Gallatin’s total of 403.
Everly’s round was good enough for runnerup to Cameron’s Megan Chaney, who shot 82.
"Kathryn continues to play very well," said GHS golf coach Chris Elbert. "Our other four girls rebounded well from a poor front nine," he added.
Kelly Critten finished with a 103 for Gallatin, followed by Alex Burge and Shalyn Lollar, each with 104; and Sydney Elbert with a 112.
Following are team standings from Tuesday’s GIT: 1. Cameron 381, 2. Gallatin 403, 3. Worth County 435, 4. Hamilton 452, 5. Tie: Albany and South Harrison 458, 7. Maysville 463, 8. Lawson 476, 9. Lathrop 516, 10. Plattsburg 566 and 11. Trenton JV.
Gallatin also finished second in last Friday’s Plattsburg Tournament, but GHS golfers grabbed at least a third place medal in each of the three paired formats.
Burge and Critten teamed to take second in the best ball competition with a combined score of 92, just two shots off the winning pace set by a pair of Cameron golfers. Elbert and Lollar shot 87 to finish third in the scramble (best shot) event.
Everly’s round of 86 was good enough for third place in individual competition, won by a Savannah golfer with a blistering score of 74.
The Lady Bulldogs team score, 265, was second to Cameron’s 262.
A pair of Lady Bulldogs, Everly and Burge, finished first and second in last Thursday’s three-team competition at Daviess County Country Club.
Everly carded a 44 to win yet another medalist award less than halfway through the 2007 season. Burge’s round of 47 was one of her best of the season and earned her the runnerup finish.
Critten and Elbert each shot 50 on Thursday. Sarah Cornett added 55 for the varsity.
Jayvee scores included Lollar 56, Sarah Smith 69 and Bailey Bozarth 71.
Gallatin’s team total, 191, easily outperformed Hamilton 236 and Lawson 241.
The Lady Bulldogs will host South Harrison and Maysville at 4 p.m. on Thursday, then travel to South Harrison on Tuesday.
