EQIP is a program that offers financial incentives to agriculture producers for applying conservation management practices on agriculture land. One benefit of EQIP is that the program allows producers to apply for financial assistance on multiple conservation practices for their farm on one contract application. Once an application is approved, the land owner may be allowed up to 10 years to complete all of the planned practices in their contract. Examples of EQIP offered practices include terraces, no-till, nutrient and pest management, and buffer practices on cropland. Fencing and water distribution practices are offered for pastureland. Financial assistance is also available for animal waste systems and practices to enhance wildlife habitat.
The 2008 program offers some changes from past programs such as conservation practices offered, incentive payment rates, and multiple tracts may be entered into one EQIP application.
All interested landowners are encouraged to visit your local NRCS office as soon as possible to review what the EQIP program may have to offer for you.
