During their regular meeting held Monday, Aug. 27, Steve Reid told the Gallatin Board of Aldermen that the new chemical was started at the water plant last Monday, Aug. 20,
He said it would take some time for the chemical to reach all the water lines. The power plant tested all the generators last week and will continue to test each engine on a monthly basis to maintain the engines.
Teddy Holcomb stated that the asphalting is complete for the summer. A roller was rented for one month to complete the streets because the city’s roller broke down in the middle of working on Prospect Street. The street crew will continue to do some hole patching.
Discussion was held on the new dump hours. The dump hours will be from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week. Dumping is only for yard waste and only allowed in designated areas.
Police Chief Mark Richards reported on activity from Aug. 13 to Aug. 27. Reports Taken/Tickets Given: 2 – Harassment; 1 – Domestic; 1 – Assault; 1 – Careless Driver; 1 – Littering, Illegal Dumping; 1 – Accident; 1 – Lewd Behavior; 1 – Identity Theft; 1 – Driving Without a License. There are eight dogs in the pound.
Police Chief Richards stated that D.A.R.E. classes will begin this year at Gallatin, Winston and Pattonsburg.
Bills in the amount of $84,499.78 were approved for payment.
Mayor Ballew discussed the street sign that is to be placed at Burns and Main Street.
Police Chief Richards stated that two new crosswalk stop signs will be placed at Olive and Richardson to help traffic control at the school.
Bob Robertson’s resignation from the Park Board was accepted by the board.
Discussion was held on Dockery Park. At this time, Terri Wright with the Park Board submitted the names of Casey Girffin, Kerry McBroom and Kristy Smith as candidates to be on the Park Board. Casey Griffin was appointed to the remaining one year term and Kerry McBroom was appointed to the remaining two year term to the Park Board.
Discussion was held on Burn’s Apartments, the city cemeteries and some items to placed for bid. The following surplus equipment was placed up for sealed bids: D.A.R.E. jeep; 1989 GMC truck; trailer; and tractor.
City Administrator Zac Johnson stated that all the banners but one have been hung that were on the first order. A second order will be placed soon. Anyone wishing to order a banner, please contact city hall.
Mayor Ballew discussed proclamations for business owners who pass away and the Chatauqua parade. She announced that she will be holding the second annual Mayor’s Motorcycle Poker Run at Chautauqua.
Mayor Ballew complimented Teddy Holcomb and his crew for the nice job that was done on the streets and thanked Steve Reid for the good job he has been doing at the plants.
The board entered into closed session pursuant to legal actions and/or litigations and hiring, firing, disciplining or promoting employees.
Public comments were made about the Park Board regarding the table, benches, trees and a walking trail, and about the Aug. 13 minutes.
