The wait is nearly over for Gallatin R-5 football fans eager to get a look at returning players from last season’s record-setting Bulldog team that set GHS high-water marks for points scored (505), touchdowns (74), rushing yards (3,873), total yards (4,995), and tied for most wins (12) in a single season.

The Bulldogs will play host to the Albany Warriors, King City Wildkats and Polo Panthers on Friday in a controlled scrimmage setting at GHS field. Starting time for Friday’s jamboree is 7 p.m. Admission is $4 for adults and $3 for students. Full concessions will be available.

"The jamboree is finally a welcome sight," says GHS head coach Mark Cole. "It brings us to the point where we can test ourselves to see what is going well and what needs work," he added. "It will be nice to be able to gauge our kids and their performance against another team’s varsity at game speed."

Coach Cole indicates that there are several battles for positions, and added that he hopes to see on Friday how some players react once they get on the field.

"The big battles for playing time and starting jobs are playing out in the offensive line, defensive line and linebacking corp," he advised. "Defensive line play will be at a premium, I suspect. We have eight to nine varsity caliber players that will either start or be in the rotation," he added.

Gallatin’s corp of returning linebackers number zero after a hard hit by graduation. Corey Lee, Stephen Wood, Chase Hunt, Colton Selby, Kyle Croy, Matt Atkinson and newcomer Quentin Trimm are battling for starting spots.

Challenges facing the Bulldogs Friday night include facing and adjusting to three different offenses and defenses, said Coach Cole.

Each participating team will run 12 offensive and 12 defensive plays against every team. There will be two scrimmages taking place at the same time on opposite ends of the field. Each scrimmage will have its own chain crew. The starting spot for each team will be the 35-yard line. All turnovers will be brought back to the 35 to begin play.

Following is Friday night’s schedule:

Scrimmage #1: Polo vs. King City — west end; Gallatin vs. Albany — east end. Scrimmage #2: Gallatin vs. Polo — west end; King City vs. Albany — east end. Scrimmage #3: Gallatin vs. King City — east end; Polo vs. Albany — west end.
