Gallatin High school FCCLA members recently participated in the STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) Events at Family, Career and Community Leaders of America’s (FCCLA) 2007 National Leadership Meeting. Both Junior and Senior Parliamentary procedure teams received a Gold medal.
The Junior team is composed of Bailey Bozarth, Kaley Esbeck, Carly Boyd, Levi Michener, Taylor Sheldon, Shelby Chadwick, Abbey Ray, and Ashley Owens. The Senior team is composed of Kayle Hefley, Alyssa Strein, Ayrica Batson, Taylor Porter, Wren Tolen, Emily Michener, Tye Humphrey, and Kathryn Everly.
Parliamentary Procedure is one of 16 national STAR Events available to FCCLA students. The medals were presented at a recognition session honoring all participants at the Anaheim Convention Center on Thursday, July 12. More than 5,000 members, advisers, alumni, and guests from across the nation attended the meeting. Nearly 2,500 students advanced from the local, regional, and state level of STAR Events to the national meeting.
Parliamentary Procedure is a team event that recognizes chapters that develop a working knowledge of parliamentary law and the ability to conduct an FCCLA business meeting.
Also attending the meeting from the Gallatin FCCLA chapter was the Region 2 President, Sydney Elbert. Sydney was one of the student judges for the Focus On Children STAR Event. FCCLA’s STAR Events program is based on the belief that every student is a winner. Competition, evaluation, and recognition all stress cooperation as the basis of success. Both youth and adults work together as managers of the events and as evaluators of the participants.
While in California, members spent a day at Huntington Beach, an evening at Medieval Times, an afternoon in Hollywood, and visited both Six Flags and Downtown Disney. The students were supervised by advisor, Becky Adkison, Julie Porter, and Missy Chadwick.
