Ms. Kirby presented summer improvements to the North Daviess R-3 Board of Education during their regular meeting held Monday, July 16.

Improvements, which included lowering the ceiling in the science room, have been finished at the high school building. Improvements of the elementary have begun. The sign in the front of the high school building is being sand blasted and painted and will return to its regular position when it is finished.
The financial statement was presented by Julie Kirby. Bills were paid as presented.
During citizen communication, Amanda Dillon approached the board with the request of being allowed to continue attending the North Daviess School District for her senior year. A motion carried to grant Amanda a waiver to attend.
The enrollment report was presented by Ms. Kirby showing that there has been a steady decline in enrollment over the past three years.
Tuition will continue to be set at $4,000. However, if a student is in need of a hardship waiver, the student will be required to go in front of the school board to plead their case for a waiver request.
A motion carried to change the calendar date of Oct. 26 to a no school day in order for a staff training day, and set Nov. 2 as an early dismissal for parent/teacher conference day.
All employees will attend a training course offered by Gray Ram Tactical LLC on Aug 20 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The following bids were accepted: diesel fuel from MFA Oil; milk from A&E; fire extinguisher service from A1 Economy Fire Protection; trash removal from Veolia Environmental Services; pest control from Chuck’s Pest Control.
The school will adhere to federal guidelines for lunch program participation.
Handbook changes were presented by Kristi Weldon and Becky Morris. Changes included the movie policy and automotive vehicle policy.
A motion carried that the school board will assure that the school district will follow the IDEA guidelines for the special education program.
A motion carried to adopt Personnel Services: Staff Welfare; Staff Involvement in Decision Making: Policy 4831 (Version B) for Certified Representation of Employees.
Sue Olson took eight North Daviess students to the Graceland University Art Academy. Ms. Kirby presented "thank you" cards from those students able to attend.
The board entered into executive session to discuss employee matters. After returning to open session, the board offered a substitute bus driving position to Michelle Malone (pending passing class S) for the 07-08 school year.
Next board meeting was set for Tuesday, Aug. 14, at 7 p.m. at Jameson.
Board members present were David Iddings, Beverly Hunter, Debbie Ray, Doug Baker, Jason Lewis and Cecil McCrary. Chris Nelson was absent. Also attending were Becky Morris, Kristi Weldon, Annette Lowrey and Amanda Dillon.
